- At a formal meeting of the UN Peacebuilding Commission’s Organizational Committee on 30 January, the Committee elected Ambassador Abulkalam Abdul Momen, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN, as the Chair of the PBC in its sixth session. Ambassador Ranko Vilović of Croatiaas was elected as one of two Vice-Chairs who will serve with Momen through 2012.[More]

- An informal meeting of the UN Peacebuilding Commission’s Organizational Committee (OC) took place on 25 October 2011. Guided by a representative of the Chair of the PBC, members discussed the need to redefine the synergy between peacekeeping and peacebuilding in order to ensure that peacebuilding mandates for peacekeeping missions are implemented with long-term sustainability in mind.[More]

- At an informal meeting of the Liberia configuration held on 13 July 2011, Member States were briefed on the Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) delegation's recent visit to Liberia (12-17 June 2011), the delegation’s first official visit to the country. The delegation was tasked with (1) discussing preparations with important stakeholders for the soon to be released review of the Statement of Mutual Commitments (SMC); (2) reviewing the reconciliation activities and outputs established in the Liberian Peacebuilding Program (LPP); and (3) analyzing progress in security sector and rule of law, with a focus on the first regional hub and civilian oversight.[More]

- Member States of the PBC’s newly established Guinea configuration convened on 26 April for a briefing by the configuration Chair, Amb. Sylvie Lucas of Luxembourg, on her recent mission visit to (and subsequent report on) Guinea from 3 – 10 April. In her briefing, the Chair noted three essential priorities for peacebuilding in Guinea, to be incorporated into the final ‘Statement of Mutual Commitments for Peacebuilding in Guinea’, namely: national reconciliation; security sector reform (SSR); and youth and women’s employment.[More]

- At an informal meeting of the Peacebuilding Commission’s Sierra Leone configuration on 16 March, Member States were briefed by Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Joseph Dauda and the Executive Representative of the Secretary-General (ERSG) and head of the UN Mission in Sierra Leone (UNMIL), Mr. Michael von der Schulenburg, on the country’s progress and remaining challenges in peacebuilding in key areas such as governance, economic and political reconstruction (including youth employment). Joining the Minister and the SRSG were several representatives of Sierra Leonean Civil Society, speaking on the critical issue of women’s participation in peacebuilding in the country.[More]
